After 3 1/2 years living deep within the boulders of the gulch we’ve relocated to a cabin we call “the outpost.” We weren’t unhappy at the gulch… this cabin just came to us. The best way to put it is- we loved the gulch 100% and then this cabin on this land showed up- and we loved it 101%.
It’s a very private little slice of land on 5 acres with a view of Black Rock Canyon and Joshua Tree National Park all the way to Twentynine Palms.
It’s interesting here because as opposed to the gulch when it would get dark it was pitch black- the stars were amazing but other than that there wasn’t a stitch of light.
Here- as dusk falls… Highway 62 starts to glimmer and sparkle below- a sliver of red and green and white twinkling lights… the connection with humanity is there- it feels bigger… more expansive. It feels good.
Our cabin is surrounded by junipers, joshua trees, creosote bush, cholla, beavertail and hedgehog cactus, wildflowers… we are amongst the coyotes, cottontails and jackrabbits, tortoises, quail, ravens and doves, roadrunners… just to name a few. The tortoises are new to us- we never saw one at the gulch- as much as we were expecting to and wanted to!
We love the new view and the new digs. It feels like there are infinite possibilities here.
There is room to grow…
Cheers to the different amazing places to dwell within the hi-desert!!! ❤
