Willie Boy’s Saloon and Dance Hall
We’ve driven by Willie Boy’s Saloon and Dance Hall on Hwy 62 for YEARS- long before we moved here- and never stopped in. We either had our pups with us or we were on our way to find a camping spot or see a property….
Every time we’d pass by we felt a strong urge to stop and have a beer- but it was never the right moment. I’d heard they had remarkably good food too- which for some reason surprised me.
Well… it exceeded our expectations.
We showed up on a weekday in the late afternoon.
“Have a seat anywhere!” said the friendly cute punkish bartender/waitress girl from across the dark cavernous space filled with long empty tables, a lonely stage, and mechanical bull.
We felt like we stepped into a Twin Peaks episode at first. Brothel meets the old west.
We walked across the expanse towards the light. Diamond-tufted red vinyl upholstered headboard booths lined the walls- and we plunked ourselves down. There is beautiful long bar with a couple guys down at the end who have been here before.
The next couple of hours consisted of drinking several locally brewed IPA’s on tap- Monumentous- (brewed in Coachella) and eating de-LISH food!
Jon had sliders and I had a vegetarian wrap with perfectly spicy chipotle sauce. Exceptionally tasty.
Full of good food and beer and surrounded by dark wood, red flocked wallpaper and low light… it’s the kind of place that makes you want to say “one more” and cancel your plans for the rest of the day.
Which is exactly what we did. 😉
